All Your Questions, Answered

  • First of all: you didn’t do anything wrong.
    Second: lice are equal-opportunity freeloaders.

    So… what are lice?

Head lice are tiny insects that live on the human scalp and feed on small amounts of blood. They don’t jump, fly, or crawl across your house like a horror movie — they spread through direct head-to-head contact.

Why did my kid get them?

Because your kid is a kid.

    Lice love:

    • Playdates

    • Sleepovers

    • Group selfies

    • Sports huddles

    • Reading circles

    • Huggy little humans

    They do not care about:

    • Clean hair vs. dirty hair

    • How nice your house is

    • How often you do laundry

    • Your parenting skills

If kids spend time together, lice sometimes tag along.

Is it a sign of poor hygiene?

Absolutely not. In fact, lice often prefer clean hair because it’s easier for them to hang on. (Rude.)

    Are we gross?

    Nope.
This is a very normal childhood thing, and most families deal with lice at least once.

    The good news?

Lice are annoying, not dangerous — and they’re very treatable. We’re here to handle the bugs so you don’t have to spiral.

  • Yes! FloSonix heated-air treatment uses a controlled flow of heated air to methodically dehydrate all lice eggs, leaving them incapable of continuing the life cycle.

FloSonix technology successfully desiccates all lice eggs on the scalp and hair shaft.

Heated-air technology is one of the most effective ways to eliminate lice and eggs - all without using harsh over the counter or prescription chemical treatments.

Timing can vary depending on hair length and thickness.

  • Yes. FloSonix uses heated air to dehydrate and kill live lice and eggs. After a professional FloSonix treatment, children are typically considered non-contagious and may return to school immediately.

Most schools follow CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidance, which allows children to return to class after effective treatment.

Always be sure to check with your child’s school to ensure compliance.

We are happy to provide proof of treatment should your school, camp, or other gathering request it.

  • Short answer: No — please step away from the Costco sized bottle of bleach.

    Long answer (the reassuring kind):
Head lice live on the human scalp. They don’t set up camp in your couch, carpet, or curtains, and they don’t survive long away from a human head. So there’s no need to deep-clean your entire home or throw half your belongings into the washing machine.

    What actually does need cleaning:

    • Bedding and pillowcases used in the last 48 hours
→ Wash in hot water and dry on high heat

    • Recently worn hats, scarves, or hoodies
→ Same deal: wash and dry

    • Hair brushes and accessories
→ Soak in soapy hot water for 10 minutes

    That’s it. Seriously.

What you don’t need to clean:

    • Furniture

    • Carpets and rugs

    • Stuffed animals (unless they were slept with very recently)

    • Cars

    • The entire house at midnight (we see you)

If an item can’t be washed, you can simply set it aside for a few days — lice can’t survive long without a human host.

    Why this works:

Lice spread through direct head-to-head contact, not through your home environment. Over-cleaning creates stress, not better outcomes.
